High School /Jr High. Besides a strong academic agenda, Ashland
schools provide many extracurricular opportunities for students,
including: Tennis, Football, Academic Bowl, Forensic Teams,
Band, Choir, Basketball, Track & Field, Golf, & Volleyball
and more.

Superintendent Reports How Well Ashland Schools Did On Tests
SCHOOLS OF EXCELLENCE
Ashland USD 220 reached the Standard of Excellence on 13 of the 14 Kansas assessment tests given in 2006. The one test they did not meet the Standard of Excellence on was very close. Ashland Elementary, Junior High and High School were all recognized as Schools of Excellence by the State Department of Education.
Ashland USD 220 not only had a large portion of students in the exemplary category but very few in the academic warning category. These results were accomplished because of dedicated teachers and staff with overwhelming support from the school board, parents and community.
We have an at-risk population of close to 50% and a special education population above the state average yet our teachers and staff have produced amazing results because of their effort.
Many of our classes were 20 points above the state average and that only happens when a good job is done within the total school population. Our focus is not just on the good students but on every student. On the Math assessment, we averaged 46.4% in the exemplary category, which is the highest category, while the state average was 21% and the state average in academic was 1.7%. On the Reading assessment, we averaged 66.6% in the exemplary category while the state average was 25.5%. The state average in academic warning or unsatisfactory was 8% and Ashland &USD 220 had only 1.8%. |
